Finding out why it failed
Once the slab is gone, the cause is easy to see: a thin or missing base, wet soil, roof or gutter water crossing the drive, poor slope, or a slab too thin for what it carried. We build the replacement plan around what we actually found on your property.
Rebuilding the base and drainage
We pull out failed base material and replace it with clean gravel, packed in layers and compacted. We reset the grades so water leaves the driveway and moves away from your house. Where slope alone will not do it, we add swales, curbed edges or a drain to the plan.
Pouring the new driveway
The new slab gets the same care as a brand new installation: thickness set by what you park, steel held in place, an outdoor mix built for our weather, joints cut early to a planned layout, and curing that is protected.

- A weak base, bad drainage, thin concrete and missing joints each need a different fix. The cause matters more than the age of the slab.
- What we find under it
- Wet or contaminated soil found after removal can add digging and more base depth. Any change to the plan goes into the contract before work continues.
- Apron and garage transitions
- Replacement is the moment to fix the heights at the garage slab and the street so vehicles clear and water keeps moving.
- Partial versus full replacement
- When only part of the driveway has failed and the rest is solid, replacing just those panels can be the honest answer instead of tearing out everything.

- Front Range freeze and thaw drives water into open joints and cracks, then expands it, which is why we check joint condition on every replacement.
- Heavy clay under an older thin slab is a common find once we pull the old concrete up.
- Deicer salt speeds up surface flaking on driveways poured without the right air content, which shows up a lot on older slabs.

Can you pour new concrete over my old driveway?
We do not recommend it for driveways. An overlay carries every crack, dip and drainage problem straight through from the slab underneath, and it raises the surface height at your garage and apron.
How long will my driveway be out of service?
Plan on it being unavailable from demolition through the passenger vehicle cure window. Your contract states the dates and any staging that keeps part of the drive usable.
How do you decide between replacement and repair?
By how much damage there is and what caused it. Damage in one spot on a solid base is a repair. Cracking spread across the driveway, panels shifting relative to each other, or a failed base means replacement.
What if something unexpected is found under the slab?
We stop and walk you through any change before continuing, and it goes into the contract. Buried debris, wet soil and old undocumented utility lines are the common surprises.
Do you haul the old concrete away?
Yes. Demolished concrete leaves your property. We do not bury it on site or use it as fill under the new slab.
Will the replacement look like the rest of my flatwork?
New concrete will not match aged concrete exactly. The cement, the gravel mix and years of weather all play a part. New concrete lightens as it cures and closes much of that gap over the first year.
