Broom finish driveway beneath mature trees
- Neighborhood
- Rockrimmon, Colorado Springs
- Completion date
- May 2024
- Square footage
- 1,050 sq ft
- Project type
- Concrete driveway replacement

Original problem
The existing driveway had uneven panels and worn edges beneath the mature trees. The homeowner wanted a consistent approach that suited the established landscape and provided a practical surface for everyday vehicle access.
Preparation
The old concrete was removed within the agreed driveway limits. Nearby trees and landscaping were protected during excavation. Exposed ground was evaluated, loose material was replaced, and gravel was compacted in layers before formwork established the edges and drainage direction. Equipment staging and debris handling stayed within the construction work area. Forms were braced before placement, and loose material was cleared from the base perimeter.
Construction details
Reinforcement was positioned before the concrete was placed, leveled, and finished with a consistent broom texture. The driveway edges were finished to meet the surrounding landscape. Control joints followed the panel layout, and curing began after finishing. Vehicle access remained restricted during the initial curing period. Supports held the reinforcement in position during placement. Concrete was worked along the forms before edge finishing, and separation was maintained where the new slab met fixed structures.
Finished result
The completed approach presents a consistent broom texture within the mature landscape. Its simple gray surface keeps attention on the home and trees, while the defined edges give the driveway a clear outline through the established residential setting.
Cost range for comparable work
The 2026 guide range for comparable work is $10,500 to $23,100 or more, with a typical benchmark of $15,750 at $15 per sq ft. The calculation uses 1,050 sq ft at $10, $15, and $22 or more per sq ft. Tree protection, restricted equipment access, removal and disposal, the amount of base correction, and total driveway area influence pricing. Edge work beside established landscaping also affects the installation effort.
