Concrete Steps
Inconsistent riser heights are a trip hazard and a code violation, and they are the most common defect we see in residential concrete steps. We lay out risers and treads from measured heights, reinforce the flight properly, and build on a base that will not settle out from under it.
Layout
We measure the total rise and divide it into equal risers within code limits. Tread depth is set for a comfortable, safe stride with a slight slope so water does not stand on it.
Structure
Steps are reinforced and built on a compacted base or a footing where the flight and the soil call for it, so the flight does not settle away from the entry it serves.
Safety detail
Nosing, edge finish, and traction texture are all planned, and handrail attachment points are coordinated before the pour when a rail is planned.

Frequently asked questions
Can existing steps be resurfaced instead of rebuilt?
Sometimes, when the structure underneath is sound and only the surface has worn down. When risers are inconsistent or the flight has settled, resurfacing hides a hazard instead of fixing it.
