Excavation and Grading
The most important part of a driveway project happens before any concrete arrives. Digging down to solid ground, removing soft or unsuitable dirt, packing the gravel base in layers, and setting grades so water leaves the property is what separates a driveway that lasts decades from one that fails in five years.
Excavation
We locate utility lines first, then dig down to the depth the job requires. Soft, organic, or wet dirt is removed rather than packed down in place.
Base placement
Gravel base is packed in controlled layers and compacted evenly with equipment, then graded to the finished slope before forming.
Site grading
Grades around the slab are set so water moves away from the house and off the driveway. Swales and drainage structures are added where the lot needs more than slope alone.

Is excavation included in a driveway estimate?
Yes. Excavation, base, and grading are part of your driveway contract. They are not add ons discovered after the project starts.
